Meet Best Western’s Endorsed Supplier for Bed Bug Prevention, Allergy Technologies, Manufacturer of ActiveGuard® Mattress Liners
A recent survey by Hotel Business magazine, in partnership with Allergy Technologies, found that nearly 97% of hotel general managers would actually implement a preventive bed bug program that delivered an 80%-90% success rate in reducing infestations. Yet only 50% of respondents reported they have been ‘offered’ a preventive product by their pest management professional and almost 80% still believe that encasements alone prevent bed bugs.

When coupling these findings with the majority of General Managers sharing that the overall cost of bed bug treatments is not tracked consistently across in the industry, confusion is the conclusion.
While there is a sensitivity toward bed bugs and an expressed desire for prevention, hoteliers do not know how to achieve it. Bed bugs do not need to be an assumed cost of doing business. However, a change in strategy is necessary, with an approach that includes a product proven to prevent bed bug incidents from developing into infestations.
Allergy Technologies is the leader in bed bug prevention in hospitality, and the Company’s flagship product, ActiveGuard® Mattress Liners, is the only EPA-registered product labeled to prevent bed bug infestations for two years. In hotel use for more than 8 years, ActiveGuard-based preventive programs have proven to reduce infestations by as much as 90 percent or more.
ActiveGuard kills bed bugs in or on mattresses and box springs and are effective in both active and preventive bed bug control strategies. Maintenance-free and non-disruptive to hotel operating efficiencies, these liners work 24/7 for two years protecting both guests and bedding from bed bugs. ActiveGuard comes in four bed sizes and are easily installed by one person.
“Bed bugs are a pest that notoriously plague hotels, making proactively addressing the bed bug resurgence even more critical,” said Joseph Latino, President of Allergy Technologies. “The financial benefits of preventing bed bugs are clear: reducing operational expenses, increasing hotel revenues, preserving the hotel’s reputation, enhancing guest confidence and reducing legal liability. Acting now by adopting a preventive strategy can potentially save hundreds of thousands of dollars in unwanted bed bug treatment and related costs.”
Eric Braun, Technical Services Manager at Rentokil said it well, “The ActiveGuard liner is ideally suited for use on bedding, as it keeps the material (the active ingredient that prevents bed bugs) where it needs to be – in the liners and in contact with the mattress and box spring, which is where bed bugs are most likely to reside.”
Latino concluded, “To implement a solid, field-proven bed bug prevention program, hoteliers should centerpiece their proactive strategies by installing ActiveGuard on mattresses or box springs to stop infestations from occurring and prevent a bed bug incident from turning into an expensive, embarrassing, and potentially litigious situation.”
